We are working through our drafts for Mark chapter one. I noticed that when we got to verses 40-44, where Jesus healed the man with leprosy, they used a sign that was related to penance to mean performance to show sorrow or repentance for sin.
Last week, I showed them from Leviticus how Israel did the animal sacrifices and all that is required. This week I brought my tabernacle model and showed them the different furniture and how the tabernacle was set up. I took them to the beginning at the entrance, where a priest would meet anyone who is offering a sacrifice. The person lays their hand on the innocent animal and confess their sins which is then transferred to the animal and the priest takes and prepares the sacrifice and lays it on the altar.
To see how God has planned it from the very beginning to portray Jesus through the lambs, rams, bulls, and doves that was sacrificed annually and then when the time came for Jesus, he paid it once and for all. He was the perfect Lamb of God. We don’t have to sacrifice ourselves to show repentance through suffering because Jesus already did the work. I’m grateful for that picture and God keeping his promise through Jesus’ sacrifice for forgiveness and deliverance.
The team had to create a new sign that symbolize the Biblical sacrifices. This was not the first time we encountered problems where we either don’t have a sign for a word or there is a sign but it doesn’t fit with what the Bible says. So we created a new sign. I love watching them learn and then discussing how best to portray the true meaning of the word.
May God continues to teach them through his Word.
